We use lactic acid-based chemical peels. This facial deeply exfoliates and rejuvenates the skin through the application of a chemical solution. Chemical facials can be quick, superficial treatments or longer more complex sessions, depending on how concentrated the solution used is and the desired results.

“If you want to relax, watch the clouds pass by if you’re laying on the grass, or sit in front of the creek; just doing nothing and having those still moments is what really rejuvenates the body…”.

Frequently Asked Questions About Chemical Facial Peels

We use lactic acid-based chemical peels. This facial deeply exfoliates and rejuvenates the skin through the application of a chemical solution. Chemical facials can be quick, superficial treatments or longer more complex sessions, depending on how concentrated the solution used is and the desired results.

During a chemical peel, your skin is first cleaned thoroughly. Next, a moderate glycolic acid solution is applied using a cotton ball or sponge. The acid will quickly burn the top layers of skin, similar to the effects of sunburn. After about 10 minutes (sometimes longer for deeper treatments), next, a neutralizer is used to wash the chemical solution off your skin, removing old layers. For superficial treatments, the process is generally painless, although you will likely experience dry or tight skin for a few days however your skin will look healthier and smoother than before. Generally, 3-4 treatments are recommended for the best results.

Superficial treatments use mild acids such as a mild lactic acid and don’t take very long. Even short, simple treatments provide deeper exfoliation than other facials, leaving your skin looking refreshed and feeling smooth, reducing fine lines or light wrinkles, and sometimes reducing the effects of sun damage.
Longer treatments and more concentrated solutions can penetrate deeper than the first layer of skin to treat scarring, wrinkles, and other imperfections. A medium to deep chemical peel is best for treating sun damage, scars (including acne scars), and discoloration, as well as wrinkles and fine lines.

Superficial treatments involve little risk if performed properly by licensed estheticians. You will likely experience some redness, irritation, and dryness for a few days following the peel.
Deeper treatments, however, can cause discoloration, infection, and in rare cases, scarring (which is usually very treatable). Our clients with dark skin are usually advised not to get deep chemical peels due to the risk of discoloration. Most side effects from a chemical peel are only temporary.

Following your chemical peel facial, you should avoid sunlight on the area as much as possible for up to six weeks, and always wear sunscreen when outside. Lotions and creams may be recommended to help speed up the healing process and reduce redness or dryness. You will need about two days to recover from superficial treatments.
